Today was all about how am I going to eat. I spent the whole day trying to find a bank as they wont take American dollars at these local joints. After an hour of walking around clueless. I decide to go into a high-end (laughable) furniture store to see if maybe they would speak english. The guy spoke about three words - so since I was getting good at sign language, I was able to pull out my card and signify cash machine. He pointed like it was straight then right then left.
Sweating like a hog, I finally find HSBC over a hill.
I literally said HALLELUH! I barge into the AC and wait on line for the ATM - seems to be the only bank for miles. I zip my card into the machine, press a few buttons - of course - tech failure. I enter the bank, speak jibberish, no one understands me. I bring out my sign language and a bank teller seems to get my frustration. She helps me obtain 200 Reales (100 dollars) - I wasnt interested in coming back.
I decide to run back as I am (insert curse here) starving. I find the lunch buffet by my house and I wolf down the average - but at this moment - glorious beef, chicken, plantains, beans and rice. Fanta is big here so I got the grape one. After 24 hours I finally got to eat!
O
k solved that problem - whats next. ANT INFESTATION at the house. There are thousands of ants crawling the walls and building cocoons in the lock mechanism of the door, around an outlet and thoroughout the floors. I find my 100% deet bug spray and wash them instantly. They seem to be in shock and eventually die by the hundreds. There are so many, I cant stop them, but can keep them under control. I wonder if they are the reason for all these red bites on my arms and legs.

I start to get my cabin fever - you would think I would have this part down as I was jailed in Astoria for 4 years, but its harder in a slum of a country you dont know.
My brain comes up with a plan. Contact the host from the Hostel. First by email. Then I realize I have a local phone in the house. Find out if they can pick me up and I can hang there with english speaking people and meet new friends.
Long story short - the woman at the hostel Isabelle - who speaks english was kind enough to come by and help me to find places that are local to buy food and eat after 4pm. Turns out it was sooooo close, but how would I know.
She was my savior today as she spoke english and showed me what to get and where to go and how to make things happen. Great friend - great help! Lindopan is the place in the picture - it is open til 10pm. She went back to work and I got back into my house right before dark. Feels like translyvania. Must get in to safety before the vampires come out...
